This Saturday, April 18th, promises to be one of those quintessential Riverside Spring Saturdays...clear, sunny skies and temps in the '80s. The streets of Downtown will be coursing with participants and spectators in the 10th Annual Salute to Veterans Parade. After the parade the focus shifts to White Park and the celebration of flavor and family at the 3rd Annual Riverside Tamale Festival.
I had opportunity last week to talk to representatives from both events: Suzanne Armas of the Riverside Tamale Festival and Laura Densmore of the Salute to Veterans Parade.
You might remember Suzanne from last year's Episode #0005. On that show we talked at length about the history of the festival and how it helps to support the Spanish Town Heritage Foundation and the preservation and rehabilitation of the Trujillo Family Adobe in the first settlement in the region.
Laura Densmore and her husband Bill have been instrumental in the creation and continued success of the Salute to Veterans Parade. What started as a simple idea to celebrate those who have served our country on a day *other* than the obvious holidays has become a family favorite over its 10-year run. I worked with Laura at the local paper (back when it was a powerhouse publication) and you might remember her as a Riverside Councilperson (when she was Laura Pearson).
Join me for this show with two Riversiders who have made it a point to add value to our community...and plan to join all of us Downtown this Saturday to make some Riverside memories. See you there!
